Eco Home Blog: Cornish Walls, Wild Flower Meadow & Bamboo Screening.

Updated: Jun 10, 2020

So, after a year of waiting for our next round of building (mortgage free) COVID 19 appears and disrupts the flow of everyday life. Whilst we were stuck without being able to move forward internally, we have taken our small wall and created an insect haven. Planting wildflowers turns out to be rather an expensive but very rewarding task. It is beautiful to look at and is great to see all the wildlife taking route in our small attempt to save the bees. We used a mixture of Cornish Costal wild seeds and bee friendly mixture.

I had to wait for our Bamboo to come out of hibernation to take some pictures. digging out the trench for the bamboo was arduous but will result in a lovely filtered natural screen for our workout and cinema area in the home. In a couple of years we will be completely hidden from the walkers wandering around the village so once the decking is in place we can have a lovely secluded seating area to enjoy the spring and summer months.

We reused as much of the soil and wall as we possibly could.... some pieces of wall are now spare so not sure how we managed that! once the gravel is covered by the decking the walls will be at the same height and concealed. This though will be in a few years as the internal fixtures are the next stage. It is still nice to be able to open the bifold doors and play music over the sound system whilst watching our mini meadow mature.

I have added in the picture of the composter which is where we make sure we place any food waste and cardboard shreddings. We used this in planting our bamboo
